RHEOSEAL 100 is a cold applied thixotropic bitumen coating as a primer. The coating is dark brown in colour and dries to black flexible film. The cured film is tough and forms a barrier to water and vapour transmission.
Surface preparation: The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil, grease. All surface imperfections and protrusions are to be removed and repaired. Structurally unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired with a suitable concrete repair mortar.
Priming: Primer is always recommended prior to coating as it not only penetrates into the concrete pores and seals the substrate. It also acts as an adhesion promoter for further coatings. The primer coat can be made in the site by diluting Rheoseal 100 with 30% water. The primer may be applied by a brush or roller. Allow the primer to dry before any further coats are applied. However, if the primer after application is left open for more than 24 hours after it becomes dry, clean the surface of any settled dust and apply a fresh coat of the primer
Application: : Stir the contents of the drum thoroughly prior to application to remove any sediment. The application can be done with a roller, brush or squeegee. Apply the coating at a coverage rate of 1-4m2 per Ltr/coat. Depending on the dry film thickness required. Do not apply RHEOSEAL 100 to outside areas in wet weather or when rain is expected. Protect freshly applied
product from rain until it’s fully cured.
Protection: The coating shall be protected from ongoing site activities and during backfilling from getting damaged by a 150-micron polyethylene sheet.
