POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMINOUS MEMBRANES

RHEOPRIME D41

RHEOPRIME D41 is a ready to use cold applied solvent based fast drying bituminous primer formulated with oxidized bitumen, fast drying solvents and additives that greatly enhances adhesion of bituminous waterproofing membranes to substrates. The primer conforms to the requirement of ASTM D 41. The solvent-based primer first penetrates and then coats the concrete surface sealing pores and on drying creates a fine layer of bitumen. The fine layer allows for a superior bond between membranes and substrate.

Features & Benefits
  • Improves adhesion between bitumen-based sheet membrane and coatings.
  • Optimum penetration into surface pores, pinholes, cracks etc.
  • Cold applied does not require heating.
  • Provides exceptional adhesion/ bonding between membranes and substrates.
  • Binder for dust particles.
  • Fast Drying

Application Process

Surface Preparation: Ensure that surfaces receiving the primer are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, contaminations and loosely adhering particles such as cement laitance, rust scales, Oils, grease, form release agents, curing compound and other foreign matter should also be removed. Remove any protrusions and loose material and make good any large cracks and holes. Concrete, screed or rendered surfaces must be cured for at least 7 days before priming. Do not add, mix or attempt to thin down with water, diesel or other substances.

Application: RHEOPRIME D41 should be well stirred prior to use. The primer drum should be agitated or rolled if stored over long period. A brush or roller may be used to evenly apply the primer to the substrate. Apply Primer in one coat by brush, roller or spray at 4-6 m2/Ltr, ensuring complete coverage and allow to dry before applying the membrane or subsequent coatings. The primer should be applied over an area that can be covered with membrane or other coatings within the same day. If left exposed for longer periods, clean the surface and re-prime before membrane installation. The primer should be tack-free dry, before applying the membrane. Any area that appears lighter should be re-coated with primer. Application should be on vertical as well as to horizontal surfaces.
